Mongolian horse show extravaganza, The Ma Park, Hallim, Jeju, South Korea
Posted on | January 28, 2009 |
Brian Miller (photo credit) first broke the news of this place prior to the start of the New Year: a forty-five minute outdoor show that depicts the life, times and battles of Ghengis Khan. All in a purpose built arena on the western side of the island, about ten minutes drive inland from Hyeopjae beach.
Up to forty men and women fight it out on trained horses, performing outrageous (and often) logic defying stunts.
It is well worth going to see.
- Admission is 10,000 won for residents who produce their alien card (5,000 won discount).
- An all you can eat, Korean style buffet, is available prior to the show (6,000 won per person).
- The Ma Park does not lie on any public transportation routes. A taxi from Shin Jeju will be expensive.
- An alternative is to take the bus to Hallim (2,000-3,000 won) and transfer to a taxi to finish the journey (about 6,000 won).
- When coming home, ask someone at the Ma Park to call a taxi for you back to Hallim. Return to the city on the bus.
- Web site: http://www.mapark.co.kr (Korean language only).
- If going in winter, wrap up warm, though additional blankets are provided by the attraction on the colder days.
*Update* Hat tip to Michael for passing on the show times: 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Jim, it would be helpful to know what days and at what times these shows are held at. From my limited knowledge of Korean, I figured that it will be held every day at 11am and 3pm.
