Jeju’s high school soccer tournament, Baek ho gee (백호기 제주), Jeju South Korea

Posted on | March 28, 2009 |

The semi final of Jeju’s island-wide high school soccer tournament went off this afternoon at the stadium complex behind the bus terminal.

But I didn’t go for the soccer.

I went to see the cheer section, which was full of hundreds of high school kids wearing multicolored jackets and colored t-shirts underneath. Together they stood to perform highly choreographed movements, which created a number of different, hugely impressive, pictures.

All sorts of pictures were made, from the name of the school, to stars and other, more technical, attempts.

Some video from years past (Justin Nalepa of the JROC in Jeju has up-to-date footage here).

Yes that’s totally human made.

Here’s some audio I collected to give a sense of the constant, deafening cacophony of noise:

The good news is that it’s still possible to witness this spectacle. Because the final games are tomorrow (Sunday 29). At the stadium, behind the bus terminal.

Get down there for an excellent afternoon out, as well as a gorgeous view of Halla in the background.

제주도 사랑해요.
