Digital Résumé

Jim Saunders is a magazine editor, writer, designer and entrepreneur.

He lived and worked on Jeju Island, South Korea, where he was editor-in-chief of Jeju Life magazine, the only in-depth and sustained English language information service available for foreigners. He also regularly contributed his stories to Jeju-Si, a monthly magazine produced by Jeju City Hall as well as consistently blogging via his blog.

He is currently attending the University of Western Ontario’s MA in journalism in London, Ontario, Canada.

Born in Derby, England, Jim’s first computer was a Spectrum 28K. Growing up as a digital native he fully embraced the Internet when access became widely available in 1997. Though he was writing before this time the move online brought fresh opportunities where he would publish anything from video game reviews to working as content manager at a famous American actress’ web site.

Completing a university education in history and politics he packed up his bags to briefly live in Poland before moving to Ulsan, South Korea. Here he would teach English while continuing to pursue his journalistic endeavors. His first contribution to the local ex-pat newspaper was published and he wanted to do more. A lot more. As time progressed he found himself moving from the position of restaurant reviewer to staff writer and eventually on to the editorial board. Varied responsibilities such as layout and design also came his way.

Upon leaving Ulsan, but not Korea, Jim decided to start his own publication for ex-pats living and working on Jeju Island. But this time embracing online journalism. Jeju Life magazine and Jejulife.net was born.

Jim also likes to travel and has visited places as diverse as Russia, Japan and Germany. He has travelled the United States coast to coast and explored the northern delights of Iceland, which to this day remains his favourite travel destination.
